Health Insurance for Children

For children who do not have health insurance, there is a solution. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) provides funding to various states that have programs which have been given federal approval.

Such a program will cover all minors until the age of 19, should they not have any other insurance. It is a program run by each state so that they have the flexibility to set their own guidelines, vis-à-vis services and eligibility. Each SCHIP receives a different amount of money, based on how many children living in the state lack insurance, and come from low income families.
