Understanding Medicare

Medicare is a single payer health care system. It is a wonderful health insurance program in that it helps many of those dealing with major long-term and chronic illnesses. For example, Medicare would cover all those individuals living with a disability, the elderly (over 65), or those in the final stages of renal disease. In other words, Medicare is the kind of insurance program that will provide cover for those who ordinarily would find it difficult, if not impossible, to get insured. The program gets its funding from the federal government.

In addition, Medicare provides funding for training for most of the country’s physicians.
